Fawcett (2010: 259):
A similar case arises with deictic determiners that express 'possession'. In examples such as my books and his books the items my and his are modelled as directly expounding the deictic determiner (dd). But in the case of my friend's books a genitive cluster fills the dd (its possessor being filled by the nominal group my friend).
Another such case is the Main Verb Extension (Mex in Appendix B) — as in the example of the word out in She threw it out into the yard, because the Mex can be 'expanded' to right out. (Here the unit of the quantity group is borrowed to handle the structure.)

[1] To be clear, in SFL Theory, my friend's books is a nominal group whose Deictic element is realised by a rankshifted (embedded) nominal group:
[2] To be clear, in SFL Theory, this instance of Fawcett's Main Verb Extension corresponds to a circumstantial Adjunct:
which is realised by an adverbial group:
However, not all Fawcett's Main Verb Extensions correspond to circumstantial Adjuncts, as demonstrated, for example, by (gone) walking (p305).
